Lake Tekapo is the popular halfway stop to break up the drive from Christchurch to Queenstown. You can enjoy the stunning scenery and take a walk over the new designer bridge crossing the old lake exit to the Church of the Good Shepherd and the sheepdog memorial. This is a great opportunity to take in the sights and enjoy the spectacular lake and mountain views surrounding this location. Lake Tekapo is a great getaway destination in its own right with plenty of things to keep you busy, with walking tracks, skiing, jet boating, scenic flights, bike trails and golf. Most of all it has a new Dark Sky Observatory which provides for some stunning star gazing opportunities.

Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail
The Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail is New Zealand in all its colour and beauty – from our highest mountains, past great lakes and rivers, and down to the ocean. Suitable for all ages, the 9 section bike trail is an easy to intermediate grade, linking the Southern Alps to the Pacific Ocean.
Roundhill Ski Area
Ski or snowboard in the heart of the South Island of New Zealand. Roundhill is a fantastic family ski field with breathtaking views of Aoraki/Mt Cook, the Southern Alps and Lake Tekapo.

Air Safaris at Lake Tekapo provide 'Grand Traverse' scenic flights over some of New Zealand's most spectacular scenery. The Dark Sky Project operates in the heart of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, the largest Dark Sky Reserve in the world and the first to obtain gold status. Thousands come from around the world each year to discover, to reflect and to be inspired by the skies above.
